Create Colorful Boxes That Can Leave a Lasting Impression
To make your product stand out, you have to take advantage of every inch of space that you can use to promote your brand. That is why it is crucial to customize your boxes by adding your product’s name, logo, tagline or slogan, and other branding communication elements.?
Design alone won’t be enough to grab the attention of your potential customers. You have to make sure that you can bring life to every detail with high-quality, full-color printing. But first, you need to know why you need to design using CMYK.
The Differences Between RGB and CMYK
If you choose the wrong color mode, the end result will always be underwhelming no matter how good the design is. Learn more about RGB and CMYK so that you can use them to your advantage. And in order to do that, you have to know the differences between the two.
RGB or Red, Green and Blue is mainly used for digital images. As a rule of thumb, if your design is going to be displayed on a screen (whether it’s on a phone, tablet, or television), make sure to use the RGB color mode.
Use RGB if you are designing for the following platforms:
- Websites
- Banners, hero shots, buttons, logos, graphics, ads, videos, etc.
- Social Media
- Images for posting, ads, profile pictures, headers, profile backgrounds, videos, and more
- Blogs
- Infographics, digital graphics, videos, photographs, and more
CMYK or Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key/Black is the color mode used for printing images. If you are planning to print the design that you are creating and want the colors and details as accurate as possible, use CMYK. Use CMYK if you are going to print your design for:
- Advertising
- Billboards, print ads, flyers, banners, brochures, posters, etc.
- Merchandising
- Mugs, pens, t-shirts, hats, tumblers, umbrellas, rubber wristbands, totes, and more
- Other Marketing Tools
- Product packaging like custom boxes or pouches, business cards, signs, stickers, posters, postcards, invitations, and menus.
Best File Formats in CMYK
RAW images technically offer the best resolution for printing. However, because the format is quite large and uncompressed, most printers are not capable of printing it.
TIFF is probably the best format for printing photos and images. It’s a lossless format, which means that it doesn’t compress the RAW file. Although TIFF also takes up a lot of storage space, it can produce high-quality images.
PSD is the best format for printing vectors. Vector images are made up of points, lines, and curves that allow them to be enlarged without losing any detail. They are perfect for logos, animation, and text.
EPS is similar to PSD in the sense that it is compatible with most vector programs.
AI is for Adobe Illustrator users. It is commonly used for logos and print media.
How Do You Change from RGB to CMYK in Illustrator
Creating a design for your custom boxes? Using the RGB color mode is not a good idea since the color of the image you see on your screen might be different from the end product. But don’t fret if you have already started creating a design in RGB.
You can easily convert it to CMYK in Adobe Illustrator by following these steps:
Step 1. Go to File then click Document Color Mode. The current color mode that you are using will have a check next to it.
Step 2. Choose Objects on the menu. Then, click Edit and go to Edit Colors. Select Convert to CMYK.
Step 3. Save your artwork using a different file name if you want to keep the RGB file that you have been working on. You can do this by clicking File, Save As, and then typing your chosen file name.
